Mukul Sangma: How will you ensure independent enquiry if police officers still in office

Shillong, Mar 7: Congress leader, Dr. Mukul Sangma has said that he has made clear to aspiring candidates applying for the party ticket for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections that to make their minds very clear.

“We need to understand the intent of the candidate. What is that brings someone to offer as the candidate of the party,” Dr. Sangma said.

According to him, to be a party nominee one should have full commitment for the larger good of the people and for the state.

“…or they are seeing now that as elected members they are enriching themselves too fast. Is it this triggering which lures them to come to active politics?” the leader of the opposition asked.

He said that this exercise to know people and their minds is a tough job.

“There has been a one to one talk. As of now I am happy the candidates whom we have finalised seem to be individuals who are committed to serve the people. In a political battle, it is important there is a unity within a party. This is something which I have discussed with them,” Dr. Sangma said.

He also said that preparing for any election is a tough job and comes with associated challenges and for a political party like the Congress where there are quite a number of potential promising leaders they do nurture their own aspirations.
