National Service Scheme , NEHU celebrated the 53rd NSS Foundation Day

Shillong, Sep 24: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, NEHU celebrated the 53rd NSS Foundation Day on Saturday at Multi Use Convention Hall, NEHU.

F. Rumnong, State NSS Officer, government of Meghalaya was present on the occasion as special guest, who shed light on the history of NSS in the country and Meghalaya as a whole.

During his speech he mentioned about the importance of NSS in various institutions such as Higher Secondary, Colleges and Universities level. He spoke about how NSS helps in developing and building the personality and character of students.

Chief Guest Dr. W.R. Kharlukhi, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, recalled his memories as a NSS volunteer in the year 1975.

He mentioned how NSS programmes are very effective.

Kharlukhi emphasised on the problem of unemployment,

He also said, “Let us not be job seekers but job providers”.

According to him, the only way to get out of the vicious cycles of seeking employment is to create opportunities for themselves.

Kharlukhi requested the NSS volunteers to spread the message and to educate people to create employment opportunities for themselves and others.

During the occasion the University Level Awards, 2022 were conferred by the Chief Guest and others.

In recognition of their commendable service to community the Best NSS Unit, 2022 were conferred to NSS Unit Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh, Best NSS Programme Officers were conferred to Iasuklang Kharumnuid, St. Mary’s College, Shillong and Yomica V. Syiemlieh, Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh, and also the Best NSS volunteers were conferred to Naphisharoi Kharbuli of NSS Unit, NEHU, Shillong,. Kerdarilin Khongwir of NSS Unit, Lady Keane College, Shillong, Armstrong Lyngdoh of NSS Unit, Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh, Suklang Paul Kurbah of NSS Unit, NEHU, Shillong and Pyndemlang Lyting of NSS Unit, Shillong College, Shillong.

Prof. P.S. Shukla, Vice Chancellor & Chairman, NSS University Advisory Committee, NEHU expressed how NSS volunteers are preserving the culture in Meghalaya and Northeastern States.

In his speech he mentioned, “Youths are the pillars of the society, if the young minds become selfish the whole society might collapse.”

He congratulated all the NSS Awardees for their selfless service to the society and also pointed out that NSS is the largest youth movement in the Country and the spirit of NSS volunteering is limitless. He also pointed out how NSS is a linkage between the Educational Institutions and the Society. During his speech he also mentioned that NSS provides opportunity to the students to understand the society better and relate themselves with the society to find better solutions.
