Nongrum resigns as KHNAM MLA, all set to join VPP

Shillong, Jan 12: The lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Thursday resigned as member of the 11th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Nongrum handed over his resignation to the Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh at the Assembly Secretariat at Khyndai Lad here.

He is all set to formally join the Voice of the People Party (VPP), which is a newly floated regional party led by former Nongkrem legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.

Altogether, thirteen legislators have so far resigned ahead of the elections reducing the strength of the House of 60 to 48.

Speaking to reporters, Nongrum said that he decided to quit the KHNAM following the misunderstandings within the party. “I will join and contest from the VPP,” he added.
