NPP dashed all expectations: RG Lyngdoh

Shillong, Sep 8: Former Cabinet Minister, R. G. Lyngdoh on Wednesday said that the National People’s Party (NPP), has dashed all expectations the citizens of the state had for them when it came to power.

“They have proved themselves to be more talk than action,” Lyngdoh said.

He also said that the governance of the NPP led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance is more on social media than on the ground.

When asked about his return to the Congress and infighting being the bane of the party how can he be a unifying factor, Lyngdoh said, that onus of responsibility will go to the state Congress president Vincent H. Pala.

“But one thing is for sure I will do whatever I can to help him,” even as Lyngdoh said that he would like to see a united Congress without factions.

Lyngdoh who was in the forefront fighting the proscribed HNLC when it was at its peak, as the Home Minister then said that the credit goes to everybody.

“The credit goes to the media, the traditional institutions, the Churches, NGOs and even civil society had come on board to tackle the situation,” he said.

Lyngdoh said that he does not that kind of combination now or any attempt to do so.

“There should be some reaching out to make people take ownership of the situation,” he added.

Meanwhile, reacting on his once more joining politics by returning to the Congress, Lyngdoh said that this was fuelled by citizens who requested him to come back seeing the present situation in the state.

He also said that in the past leaders of several regional parties had asked him to join them but he could not since they were holding on to the past rather than look to the future.

“I am comfortable with the Congress, I know the Congress well. I have been here hence I chose the Congress again,” Lyngdoh said.

He also said that he did not join the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) because it is taking the State in a wrong direction.

He also said that the BJP and its ideology is suspect.

Lyngdoh stated, “I don’t believe in uniform country after all our country is unity in diversity. I think that diversity is what makes our country strong and beautiful.”
