29th October 2024, Khliehriat, Meghalaya – In an inspiring show of community service, the NSS Unit of Don Bosco College Byndihati held a hospital volunteering drive at Khliehriat Civil Hospital on 29th October 2024. This event was organized as part of the nationwide “Diwali with My Bharat” initiative, focusing on encouraging youth engagement in community welfare and celebrating the hard work of healthcare professionals. The activity was conducted under the supervision of Matron Smt. Bernitha A. Sangma and Dr. S.T.S. Momin, with the goal of contributing to a cleaner, more supportive healthcare environment while honoring the dedication of hospital staff.
NSS volunteers spent the day involved in various hands-on activities, including cleaning the hospital premises, assisting patients, and gaining firsthand insights into the daily challenges faced by healthcare workers. Volunteers worked alongside hospital staff, assisting in basic patient care and supporting logistical tasks to ease the workload, which provided them with a deeper understanding of the essential role that healthcare workers play in the community.
Speaking on the initiative, Matron Smt. Bernitha A. Sangma commented, “This event offers our students the invaluable opportunity to appreciate the dedication and sacrifices made by our healthcare staff daily. The support from young volunteers not only lightens our load but fosters a sense of empathy and responsibility among the youth.”
The event reflects the core values of the My Bharat initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, celebrating its first anniversary this year. Through hospital volunteering, the NSS Unit of Don Bosco College Byndihati has not only contributed to a cleaner and more supportive environment at Khliehriat Civil Hospital but also helped build stronger ties between young people and community institutions. The youth involved gained invaluable insight into the selflessness of healthcare professionals, honoring their dedication during this festive season.
