Shillong, May 12: The state has recorded only 37-38 percent of vaccination for citizens above the age group of 45 years, the government informed on Wednesday.
“Our request to all the concerned citizens to kindly decide yourself. From the government side we keep requesting, convincing and asking you to get vaccinated,” Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said.
He said that one of the reasons for the citizens’ hesitancy for taking the vaccination could be due to fake news in circulation on social media that if one takes the jab its the sign the beast (666). “That’s being superstitious. That could also be a contributing factor people don’t want to get vaccinated,” he added.
He said that the state’s Health department has been aggressively explaining to convince people to take the vaccine.
Tynsong also informed that the 42000 vaccines for those in the age group of 18 to 44 years will be arriving on Thursday.
“We have decided to prioritise these vaccines for the most vulnerable districts,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
He also informed that 400 additional beds has been arranged for Covid patients in case the need arises.
Tynsong informed that 300 beds are in IIM, Shillong at Nongthymmai and another 100 at TB Hospital Umsawli.
“Out of the 300 beds in the IIM Shillong, 100 will be with concentrators and of the 100 beds in Umsawli 40 will be with concentrators,” he added.
