PDF meets NEHU Vice-Chancellor on issues concerning university

Shillong, Sep 23: The People’s Democratic Party (PDF) on Thursday met North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla on issues concerning the university.

The PDF also submitted a memorandum, to Prof Shukla expressing its concern over the state of affairs concerning the premiere central university of the region.

Amongst other things, the PDF wanted filling up of vacant posts in teaching and non-teaching staff and also expressed it concern over lack of allocation of funds to academic activities.

The PDF, in the letter to the NEHU,. Vice-Chancellor also pointed out to the regressive ranking of the university.

According to the PDF as per the latest NIRF ranking NEHU have witness a decline in status and prestige among the central universities in the country in the last few years.

“The lack of efficiency, vision and dynamic leadership in the past years have resulted in the regressive ranking of the University and affected the higher education in the state,” the party stated in its memorandum to the NEHU Vice-Chancellor.

The PDF also wants the university to set up job-oriented courses.

“Job-oriented courses are of great importance to enhance and uplift the socio-economic aspect of the state of Meghalaya and the Northeastern region in general,” the PDF stated.

The party also took up the issue of timely declaration of results and setting up of CSIR-NET examination centre.

According to the PDF semester results were supposed to be published by all concerned department on every February 1 and August 14 of every semester.

“However, in the past years the declaration of results has been delayed many times and this has affected the students in different aspects and especially those who are pursuing higher studies,” the PDF pointed out.
