Police arrests another KSU member for Ichamati killings, remanded to six days police custody

Shillong, Apr 27: Police on Saturday afternoon arrested another member of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) for his alleged involvement in the murders of two labourers in Ichamati on March 27.

According to a press statement issued by East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Rituraj Ravi, the KSU member has been identified as Osternic Marbaniang (34) of Jaiaw, Laitdom. Shillong.

He was arrested from Jaiaw on Saturday afternoon.

He was produced before a Lower Court on Saturday evening and was remanded to six days police custody.

According to Ravi the KSU member was arrested in connection with the killings of Ishan Singh and Sobir Dutta was murdered in Ichamati.

The police so far have arrested four KSU members for the alleged involvement in the Ichamati killings.

Earlier, three KSU activists- Shamborlang Shati and Mesadapbor Skhembil, both 26 years and from Sohra and Cleenstar Shabong (27) from Nongthymmai were arrested in connection with the killings.

Meanwhile, Ravi in a press statement issued on Saturday appealed to the people to maintain peace and order.

“All miscreants who act in a manner to breach law and order will be strictly dealt with as per law,” the East Khasi Hills SP said.
