Shillong, Dec 26: Trinamool Congress (TMC) National Spokesperson Saket Gokhale, on Monday highlighted how the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has failed to take any concrete action and has resorted to token steps to pacify the people of Meghalaya.
Gokhale in a letter highlights the chain of the incidents which shows the incompetency of the MDA government in taking care of the people of Meghalaya.
In the letter, the TMC national spokesperson stated that the hypocrisy of the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been exposed.
Gokhale said that Sarma brushed away the brutal killings by calling it an “act of self-defense against miscreants.”
“This statement was made while the probe was still ongoing and the case filed by the Trinamool Congress with the NHRC is still pending,†he said.
Revealing the MDA government’s sheer reluctance in meting out justice, the TMC National Spokesperson said that while an FIR was registered in the incident in Meghalaya, the MDA government has restrained the state police from arresting the Assam Police personnel responsible for this murder.
“The MDA government made a show of doing something to pacify the people of Meghalaya but took zero concrete action,” Gokhale said.
He also said that as the Meghalaya Assembly elections are approaching, the priority of the NPP and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is to ensure that Sarma and the BJP are kept happy rather than ensure justice for the victims of the Mukroh murder.
The TMC spokesperson said that this is also the reason why Sangma chose to appeal for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s intervention in the matter rather than empower the Meghalaya police to take action.
“Policing is a state subject, and yet, Sangma has turned to his remote controllers in Delhi and Guwahati instead of taking firm action,” Gokhale added.
He said that this shows that even though five lives were lost in a brutal killing, a state-wide protest and cries of the people of Meghalaya cannot wake the MDA government from their slumber.
Gokhale demanded that the perpetrators of the Mukroh murder must be arrested by the Meghalaya police and any attempt to bury the cause of justice for the victims will not be tolerated by the TMC who will continue to fight relentlessly for the victims.
