Speaker admits opposition’s no confidence motion against Conrad-led government

Shillong Nov 10: The Opposition Congress’s no confidence motion moved against the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government alleging its failure on all fronts has been admitted in Assembly and the same will be taken up on Wednesday at 11 am.

Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma along with other 10 Congress MLAs submitted the no confidence motion, expressing want of confidence in the council of ministers through the Assembly’s commissioner and secretary, and the Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh, before admitting it, asked atleast 10 MLAs to stand in support of the motion.

The Opposition alleged that the government led by chief minister Conrad K Sangma has failed on all fronts especially to protect the interest of the state.

The no confidence motion is seen as a move to topple the MDA government which has too many coalition partners.

The Congress has 19 MLAs in the 60-member House, while the MDA has the support of 41 MLAs including three Independents.
