‘Get vaccinated to protect yourself from Covid-19’
Shillong, May 1: Health experts of the State on Saturday stressed that the public need to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the second wave of the Covid-19 virus which is more virulent.
Dr. V. J Laloo, specialist in community medicine during an interaction with the citizens of the state through an on line forum said that if vaccinated one would be 80 percent protected from the virus.
Dr. Laloo also stressed on the fact that both doses of the vaccine should be taken in order to see the efficacy of the vaccine.
Rajeev Sarkar, epidemiologist Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) said that if a vaccinated person gets Covid the severity of the ailment would be lesser and hospitalisation won’t be needed.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that during the 10 day containment period which started on Saturday the health authorities would assess and prepare itself on how to protect the citizens if there is a surge of cases.
Dr. War said that the deaths that were recorded in April were of those who did not take the vaccine.
“Another fact is that many of the fatalities were of younger people compared to last year,” the Director of Health Services informed.
Dr. Vijay Nongpiur from NEIGRIHMS said that even if a person has taken plasma therapy he still needs to go for the vaccination.
“Plasma therapy is not a long term protection,” Dr. Nongpiur added.
