GHADC to go for polling on Monday

Voting ruling party will give stability in GHADC, says Conrad

Shillong, Apr 11: Polling to the 29-seats of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will be held on Monday. The votes will be counted on April 15.

In the 30-member house, one seat is nominated.

A total of 182 candidates are contesting the election of which 174 are males and eight are females. A total number of 743717 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise of which 374441 are males and 369276 are females.

The parties contesting the GHADC polls are – the Congress, BJP, NPP, UDP, NCP, GNC and also a host of independents are in the fray.

During its campaign trail the NPP focused on the government’s initiative and development, while the opposition Congress highlighted the corruption of the MDA government led by NPP. The UDP this time is trying to find a foothold in Garo Hills in the absence of any other regional party from the region.
