Govt imposes night curfew from May 4 to curb spread of COVID-19

Shillong, May 3: A meeting to assess the COVID-19 situation in Meghalaya chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took certain decisions after surge in cases of late all over the state.
Informing, reporters after the review meeting, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that all shops will be closed at 7 pm from May 4 in the Shillong agglomeration.
Tynsong also informed that curfew will be imposed from 8pm to 5 am in the Shillong agglomeration from May 4.
Also office hours will be reduced from 5pm to 4:30pm in the Shillong agglomeration.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the government has also decided that the disposal of dead bodies will be allowed till 2 pm for both COVID and non-COVID cases and it will be applicable all over the state.
He also said that the bodies of COVID-19 victims should not be kept inside the house and the coffin should not be opened.
“The trend is dangerous. Please respect the arrangements made by the state government,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
Tynsong also informed that the state government was monitoring the situation o a daily basis even as he said that lockdown is “still not an option”.
