BJP MLA mourns demise of former Dy Speaker, H S Shylla; describes him as “philosopher, guide and protector”

Shillong, Aug 08: BJP legislator from South Shillong constituency, Sanbor Shullai on Saturday recalled the life and contributions of veteran political leader, Hispreachering Son Shylla and described him as a “philosopher, guide and protector.”

Mourning the demise of Shylla, the BJP MLA said, “It greatly pains me to convey my sincere feeling and sorrow at the sudden demise of my loving friend (Late) Hispreachering Son Shylla. He was a philosopher, a guide and a protector.”

Recalling Shylla’s works and contributions, Shullai mentioned some of the works that Shylla had contributed, such as unearthing the bogus ration cards, formation of a “Three Flags” government in 1978 in the State in order to end political instability and as an architect of the Clan Administration Bill in order to strengthen the matrilineal system and many others.

“He was a man full of dynamism, frank and candid, and a superb orator full of enthusiasm and courageous person calling a spade a spade,” Shullai said.

Shullai said that Shylla will be also remembered for his impeccable services as he recalled his humanitarian qualities and faith in secularism and pluralistic society.

He also called the former Nongkrem legislator (Shylla) a “father and guardian of the poor, the needy and the weaker sections.”

“Bahdeng, God knew and saw your sufferings. He then decided to end the tears, pain and other things that drove you around the bend. True death leaves a heartache that can never ever be healed, but love leaves a golden memory that nobody can steal. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, the day God calls you home,” Shullai said.

Shullai conveyed on behalf of himself, his family and the people of his Constituency, (19- South Shillong) deepest condolences to members and close relatives of the bereaved family. “We pray that God will guide, console and strengthen them in these darkest hours.”

“The golden memory of your smiles will ever linger in our hearts,” Shullai stated.

He was elected twice (1988-1993 and 1993-1998) as member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from Nongkrem constituency, and won the elections to the KHADC thrice from the same Nongkrem constituency (1984-1989, 2004-2009 and 2016-2019).
