Training programme on creation of Bamboo jewellery and utility handicrafts at Sohkymphor concludes

Shillong, Apr 14: The District Commerce & Industries Centre, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in collaboration with M/S Neera Creation, Murba Teteli, Tezpur (Assam) organised a 25 day capacity building training programme on creation of Bamboo Jewellery and Utility Handicrafts at Sohkymphor village, East Jaintia Hills district under Handicraft Promotion Scheme 2020-21.

The programme was conducted for a stretch of 25 days starting from March 2021.

The trainees were taught on how to create varieties of jewellery using bamboo.

Sohkymphor was chosen since many villagers are involved in making of various handicrafts works out of bamboo and cane.

The training concluded by a valedictory programme on April 13 which was attended by Kyrmen Shylla, Minister in charge of Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Social Welfare Department & Excise.

The chief guest also praised the people of Sohkymphor village for having skills and their dedication.

He also said that from his side he will try his best to help in whatever way he can in order to promote the skills of the people of Sohkymphor and East Jaintia Hills as a whole.
