Shillong, Sep 6: United Democratic Party (UDP) general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh has said that it was surprising the AICC appointed, Shillong Lok Sabha MP, Vincent Pala as the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief.
According to Mawthoh, the people of the state had given him three consecutive terms to represent Shillong in national politics but he as to return back to the state.
“It is quite surprising suddenly and there is a big question mark as to why he has come back to state politics. The return of Pala could only mean that everything is not well within the Congress party and it is very obvious that a lot of infighting is going on,†Mawthoh said.
The UDP general secretary said that the Congress in the state is divided into three groups.
“There are three groups in the Congress camp and with Pala’s return they are trying to project who among them is the best leader,†he added.
On the opposition Congress, bringing a no confidence motion against Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh in the upcoming Autumn Session, Mawthoh said that there were numerous attempts on the part of the Congress to dislodge the government which failed and for this reason they are targeting him.
The UDP general secretary said that the other reason for this move of the Congress to target the speaker is their failed attempt to get the UDP in their fold.
