Shillong, May 13: Vaccination for people in the 18-44 age above will start from Friday after 42,000 doses of Covishield vaccines arrived here in Meghalaya on Thursday, health officials said.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the vaccination drive will start from Friday in vulnerable areas identified by the State Health and Family Welfare department.
The vulnerable areas have been identified in all district headquarters and priority for vaccination is East Khasi Hills, Ri- Bhoi, WestGaro Hills, South West Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
He said the slot for this age group between 18 to 44 is already full in Shillong and other districts.
“… a huge rush of people in this age group (18-44) who wanted to register for vaccination. The signs show that 18-44 are willing to go for vaccination,” Tynsong said.
“We request the citizens, to avoid any rush, we have regulated in a way that those concerned people will get the detailed information on their registered contact number,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
The government had said that the vaccine would be provided for free at the government health facilities, but would be administered on a payment basis at the private hospitals.
