With two more COVID-19 deaths state’s tally rises to 143

Meghalaya records seven new COVID-19 cases, five recovers

Shillong, Jan 8: The state on Friday recorded two more deaths , taking the number of fatalities due to the virus since the pandemic  to 143.

According to the health department two deaths were recorded in East Khasi Hills district.

A 31 years old female, identified as  Ms. Namita Deka, resident of Police Reserve, Shillong, known case of Advance Stage Carcinoma Rectum under Palliative Care come to the Casualty on 6th Jan, 2021 with extreme Malignant Cachexia, pain abdomen and disorientation. In Casualty patient develop cardiac arrest and patient declared dead on 6January, 2021 at 8:59 PM.

RTPCR was done and found to be COVID positive

Immediate cause of death: Malignant Cachexia

Antecedent Cause: Advance stage Ca Rectum  and Uremic Encephalopathy. 

Second deceased identified as, Smti Rina Dutta, 55 year old, Female, resident of Saha Colony Dhalai, Tripura, known case of RHD (severe MS with severe pulmonary hypertension, LVF and progressive MS) on left ventricular failure, presented with SOB orthopnea, restlessness and cough. Patient attended Emergency, NEIGRIHMS on the 6.01.2021

On clinical evaluation patient developed sudden onset LOC with seizure which was controlled with medication. NCCT brain was done and showed hypodensity in right temporal and capsuloganglionic region and started developing low saturation with high BP

RTPCR test was done and turned out to be Positive (NCOV19/56705) patient was shifted to Level B for further management. During that time, patient developed a sudden cardiac arrest for which CPR is given as per protocol. Despite all resuscitative measures, she could not be revived and was declared dead at 6:33 PM on 06.01.2021

Antecedent Cause: COVID Pneumonia 

Contributing Causes: Rheumatic heart disease .

Of the 24 new infections detected as on Friday, 21 from East Khasi Hills district(High Risk- 08,Bishnupur cluster- 01,Jhalupara cluster- 01,Madanryting cluster- 02,Mawprem cluster- 05,Nongrah cluster- 01,Returnee- 01 and SARI case- 02) and 01 each high risk from  East Jaintia Hills district , North Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district .

Meanwhile, the number of recovered persons surged up to 13,262 in the State with 05 new recoveries registered on Friday, which included 04 from East Khasi Hills district(Armed force/ Para-military force- 01,High risk- 01,Madanryting cluster- 01 and Malki cluster- 01) and 01 High Risk from West Garo Hills district.
