Police look for masterminds of petrol bomb attack inside MPSC building

Shillong, July 23: Masterminds of the recent petrol bomb attack inside the Meghalalya Public Service Commission (MPSC) building is on the run, with police looking to nab them after arresting four persons allegedly involved in the incident.

East Khasi Hills District SP Davis NR Marak said that four arrested accused include a person who was paid to hire two others to lob a petrol bomb, and the other was the one who waited for them in a vehicle that was parked near the office.

Without disclosing the identity of four accused, Marak said, “The person who paid the two to commit the arson was getting paid Rs 50,000 by somebody. Out of this, Rs 18,000 each was paid to them. They were also paid for buying petrol.”

The arrested persons have been booked under relevant section of IPC related to arson and trespassing into government property.

They were produced before the Court and remanded 10 days in police custody.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that some bigger people are involved in the case,” he said without ruling out ulterior motive behind the petrol bomb attack. Till the time we catch the person or persons who have paid them, then only we will be able to know the motive of the attack,” he said.

Seven persons were picked up by police from Nongmensong area on Saturday. A maruti van allegedly used for committing the arson was also seized by police.

On July 10, two unidentified persons went to the MPSC building and lobbed a petrol bomb in the room of the MPSC secretary, WAB Booth, which caused damage to some important documents, computers, and other properties.

A special investigating team (SIT) headed by Superintendent of Police (City) S Rynjah was also constituted to probe into the incident.

Police have also identified two persons who committed the arson with the help CCTV footages and eye witnesses.
