Shillong Jan 17: Family members of miners who were trapped inside a coal mine at Khloo Ryngksan in East Jaiñtia Hills district have been invited to view a video captured by the Indian Navy’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) which had detected a body inside the main shaft.
Spokesperson for the rescue operation, R. Susngi informed that the deputy commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills district, F.M Dopth has invited the the family members of two trapped miners from Chirang district in Assam, and three miners from Lumthari village near Khloo Ryngksan where the coal mine is located.
Susngi said that the deputy Commissioner has invited the family members to view the video provided by the ROV.
He said that the body has sign of decomposition and all efforts are on to retrieve the same.
“As per expert opinion, it (body) will lead to a total disintegration. The body has been pulled upto 100 feet from 210 feet position originally detected from the shaft, and many body parts have started to disengage. The relatives who were present on Thursday will furnish their views by Friday,†he said.
The Odhisa fire service operated their pump from 11 am till 3.30 pm and the total discharged of water was 40,50,00 litres.
“The CIL pump operated their pump from two shafts and each pumped out water for 19 hours. The total water discharged was approximately, 43,09,200 litres,†Susngi said.
The Plenys-Chennai technology that operated their ROV and carried out a sonar mapping of the shaft, has detected one rat hole.
Dr Sudhir Dr Sudhir of the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee surveyed the main shaft to understand the geological scenario.
Informing that the NDRF also assisted other agencies with all the resources available, Susngi said that the KSB engineering also tried their best to install their pumps but unable yet due to mechanical snag of the jointer and clamp issue.
