Shillong, June 21: Thousands of young people gathered at the Don Bosco Technical School, Laitumkhrah to take part in the two-day Job Fair organised by the Don Bosco Technical Society in partnership with the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS).

The Job Fair was inaugurated on Friday by MSSDS Executive Director, Bhupesh Hajong, in the presence of Employment Exchange Deputy Director, J. Lyngwaand and Rector of Don Bosco Technical School, Fr. Edmund Gomes.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Hajong spoke at length about the importance of skill development and the need for the youth of the State to make informed choice about their career so as to achieve success in life. He informed that the Meghalaya government is helping the youth with youth empowerment programmes like Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM) in different market–driven and native trades.

Under this programme, the Department has pledged to impart skill training to 7,000 young people with employment opportunities.

Lyngwa in her speech, encouraged the youth to take advantage of the Job Fair where they have the unique opportunity to meet employers from different sectors and industries, while Fr. Edmund Gomes reminded the young participants that the purpose of the Job Fair was to encourage them to work hard and make a success of their lives.

Hiring Mangers from more than 30 companies, including Apollo Proton Hospital, Just Dial, Bharati AXA Life Insurance, Speed Wings Aviation, Safexpress, Jetex, Devyani International, Sodexo, ICICI Bank, Barbeque Nation and more, met with the young people between 18 to 35 years, during the Job Fair for selecting the deserved youth for different jobs roles. Many participants received on the spot job offers from the employers.

In addition to immediate job offers, the coalition provided access to free skill training provided by MSSDA under ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM)’ in which Don Bosco Tech is an implementing partner to impart skill training in service sectors to the unemployed youth of Meghalaya.
