Hek says 12 MDCs will join BJP, induction will take place on Sept 7

Shillong, Aug 30: As many as 12 MDCs from different political parties including the opposition Congress are all set to soon join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP is supporting the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) led by the National People’s Party (NPP).

Eight of them who would join the BJP are members of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), three members of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and one member of from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

This was disclosed by BJP leader and Health Minister, A.L Hek on Friday.

Hek told reporters that the eight MDCs of the JHADC include four from the opposition Congress, and four from the United Democratic Party (UDP) were ready to join the BJP.

“These eight MDCs were supposed to officially join the party on Saturday, but the meeting to welcome them has been postponed since Central leaders of the party from Delhi are unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances,” Hek informed.

According to Hek, the meeting to welcome the eight MDCs from Jaiñtia Hills will be held on September 7.

“Three members of the GHADC and one member of the KHADC have also expressed their willingness to join the party. Some of these MDCs are also from the NPP. There will be more political leaders who will join the party in the coming days,” Hek claimed.
