Advocate will take on former Pynthorumkhrah MLA, A.L Hek

Shillong, Jan 12: An advocate, Aneeta Synrem would contest as an Independent candidate against former MLA and BJP candidate, A.L. Hek from Pynthorumkhrah constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing media persons here on Friday, Synrem said that the rumours were being spread that she is not going to contest anymore.

“These rumours are false and just to create doubts in the minds of the electorate,” she said.

Asked whether she had applied for ticket from any political party, the advocate said that she has neither approached any political party nor political parties approached her.

“Political parties have different ideologies and I feel that I can serve the people better as an independent,” Synrem said.

Stressing the need to increase women representation in the Assembly, Synrem said, “I have decided to contest for the first time so that it will be a motivation for other women to come forward and contest elections to increase women representation in the Assembly.”

Slamming the former sitting MLA (Hek), she said that serving for the past 20 years, yet Pynthorumkhrah constituency is suffering from underdevelopment.

She alleged that roads in the constituency are in pathetic condition and without proper street lights, drainage system and completely no public-friendly policy.

“The MLA has failed completely,” she alleged.

Stating that change should come in the constituency, Synrem said that people should elect a new face if they want change and not candidates who have money.

Taking a dig at Hek who recently resigned and joined the BJP, Synrem said, “He (Hek) is an opportunist who thinks only for his self development and not for the interest of the people of the constituency.”

She said that she is a tenant in Polo Hills but yet she felt the need that she has to take up the responsibility to address problems being faced by the people in the constituency.

“I assure that if I am elected, I will still be a tenant because my decision to contest the election is not to gain wealth but to serve the people,” Synrem stated.
