Shillong, Nov 19: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) led by former legislator from Nongkrem constituency, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit was formally launched on Friday during its first general meeting.
Addressing party workers, Basaiawmoit said that the entry of money bags and businessmen during elections has left the state bereft of lawmakers in the assembly.
“This in turn affected the state’s growth and development,†he said.
He told the gathering that their presence is a manifestation of the determination to change the course of direction the State from its current situation to something better.
The vision statement of the party reads, “to restore, revive and transform Meghalayaâ€.
“Restore what that has been ruined and destroyed. Revive what we have lost, like the economy of the rural areas and to transform the present sorry state of affairs into a dignified one from the least performing state to the best performing state,†Basaiawmoit said.
He said that the VPP will be a party with a difference driven by the policy of clean politics, clear ideas and ideologies.
Basaiawmoit said that the general perception of the people these days is that no election can be fought or won without money power.
He said that the VPP is an alternative to the people of the state.
“I am also sure that the people of the state are longing for this to take place,†Basaiawmoit added.
