Shillong, Oct 5: A group of concerned citizens of the state announced that it will launch political party, the “Voice of the People Party” (VPP) to fight the 2023 Meghalaya assembly elections.

The new political party with former legislator, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said that a “group of concerned citizens” in the State decided to float a new political party with a view to effectively deal with the people’s issues.

“As concerned citizens of the state we cannot sit idle and turn a blind eye to what we witness and hear about the present situation in the state. As you are aware the state is going to complete 50 years of its existence in 2022 that is next year only. However it is
sad to see that the state is going down in every aspect,” Basaiawmoit said during a press conference.

He said that they have decided to float a new regional political party namely Voice of the People Party in order to bring about a political change in the state in view of the present state of affairs in the state.

According to Basaiawmoit the absence of a strong political will and the failure of the existing political parties to live up to the expectations of the people has led the group to form the party.

He said the new party will be formally launched in November.

The former legislator also appealed to the people of the state to be part of the VPP to bring about a change in politics in the state and to give his party a chance to govern the state.

“We can assure the people that a vote for us is number one a vote for a real and complete change, a vote for a clean and good governance, a vote for a strong and decisive leadership, a vote for peace and security, a vote for an all round and inclusive development and last but not the least a vote for unity,” Basaiawmoit appealed.
