Shillong, Feb 24: Meghalaya Assembly’s Committee on Women Empowerment has decided to recommend to the state government to direct the anti-infiltration check gates to also check trafficking of minor girls from the state.
After a meeting held to review such cases, chairperson of the committee, Ampareen Lyngdoh said the committee was alarmed over the frequent case of trafficking of minor girls from the state and called for necessary action to address the problem.
She said recently, three girls from West Khasi Hills have been rescued by the police.
“The committee highly recommends that the anti-infiltration check gates should be engaged to prevent such crimes against minor,” Lyngdoh said.
The Committee has also asked the state police to provide the data of all rescue operations conducted by the Meghalaya police right from January 2018 till date.
Stating that the cases of minors getting eloped is also very high, the Committee has also asked for a similar data from the state police.
