Shillong Aug 30: The BJP’s Central leadership has postponed the induction of eight members of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) due to urgent party meeting in New Delhi on Saturday.
Meghalaya state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh on Friday informed that the function to induct the eight MDCs of the JHADC into the party has been postponed because Central and Regional leaders of the party have to attend urgent party meeting on Saturday.
Moreover, BJP leader from the North East, Himanta Biswa Sarma would be not able to come to Meghalaya in view of the publication of the final NRC list in Assam on Saturday.
Lyngdoh said that Central leaders of the party would again fix the function most probably in the first week of September.
Earlier, the eight MDCs were to be welcomed at the BJP office, Oakland Road in Shillong on Saturday.
The JHADC members include four from the United Democratic Party (UDP), and four from the opposition Congress.
The UDP and the BJP are working together in the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
Though Lyngdoh refused to name the eight MDCs who would soon join the BJP, but their names have been circulated via social media.
The MDCs include former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the JHADC, Andrew Shullai, Holando Lamin, Arbor Hima, and Aiborlang Shadap, all from the opposition Congress.
The other four MDCs include Lakhon Biam, Dawan Lyngdoh, Krishon Langstang and Treilang Suchiang, all from the UDP.
