Curfew in Shillong after KSU member dies in attack at Ichamati

Shillong Feb 28: Curfew has been imposed in some parts of Shillong from 10 pm on Friday to 8 am on Saturday anticipating deterioration of law and order in Shillong agglomeration and adjoining areas.

The curfew was imposed after members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) were attacked on Friday evening after they held a meeting at Ichamati, Shella along the Indo-Bangla border opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 and demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

One KSU member succumbed to injuries in the attack.

The KSU held the meeting at Ichamati and after the meeting, they were attacked by non tribals. While some of them were seriously injured, some received minor injury in the clash.

The areas under curfew include the whole of Municipal Area, whole of cantonment area, all areas under Mawlai Block including census town, all areas under Mawpat Block including census town, areas under Mylliem Block from Umshyrpi upto 7th Miles, Upper Shillong, Madanrting, Mawblei, Laitkor, NOngkseh, Umlyngka, Lawsohtun, Mawdiangdiang, Diengïong and Siejïong.
