Shillong, March 1: To deal with increasing cyber crimes, a Cyber Assistance Cell (CAC) was set up in the Cyber Crime Wing of CID, in the city capital on Monday. The Cyber Assistance Cell (CAC) was set to render assistance to any person who is a victim of harassment of criminal activities through mobile phones or internet state Criminal Record Bureau superintendent of police D Jyrwa said in a statement. In a statement issued to the media, police said the criminal activities may be in the form of obscene calls and SMS on mobile phones, Online pornography, stalking, abuse through internet, defamation on social networking sites or emails will be dealt with by Cyber Assistance Cell (CAC) and victims will be assisted, if necessary, to further pursue by way of formal complaint in the nearest police station, he said. At least 24 police personnel have been trained to deal with cyber crime cases and regular trainings were conducted to cope with the ever-changing cyber world, officials added.The cyber assistance cell can be reached at 0364-2504001/ 9615191002 and ccw-meg@gov.in.The cell will function from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on all working days.
