Shillong Apr 26: The Dorbar Shnong Mawkynring, Raid Nongkynrih, Khyrim Syiemship on Friday apologized in connection with an incident in which four persons from neighbouring Laitkyrhong village were beaten by accusing them as “menshohnoh†in the village on April 16.
Amid the demand from the mob to lynch them, the functionaries of Mawkynring Dorbar Shnong had beaten the four persons and then handed over to police of Pynursla police station.
The four arrested persons from Laitkyrhong include, Shabitstar Kharkongor, Trol Rynjah, Drimroy Rynjah and Kombitshon Nongkynrih. After being assaulted, the four persons were arrested and booked under PoCSO allegedly for attempting to rape two minor girls.
A statement issued by the headman of Mawkynring, L. Nongkynrih, said that the village held a Dorbar on Friday (April 26) and expressed regret and sadness in connection with the incident on April 16 and sought apology from the people of Laitkyrhong village.
The headman said that the Dorbar Shnong Mawkynring would like to clarify and certify and the four persons were good people, and the incident had happened due to wrong information given by the minor girls about the four persons.
“During the Dorbar, we have verified from one lady who is from Mawkynring village since she had seen the two minor girls when they run out of fear after seeing the four persons on that day (April 16). This lady had told the two minor girls on that day not to be afraid, but when they reached home, they told a different story to their parents. Because of this, the father of the children screamed in the village for help, after which, some people came out, and they apprehended the four persons when they were passing through Mawkynring village to return to Laitkyrhong,†the headman said.
He said that the four persons were beaten (as seen in the video that has gone viral) to control the mob and it was very tough to control the mob especially when there were some people who instigated, including those who came from outside Mawkynring village.
The Dorbar Shnong Mawkynring also thanked the police of Pynursla police station who reached the village to control the situation and the mob, and took the four persons with them.
The headman apologized to the people of Laitkyrhong village over the remarks from the mob that all Laitkyhong people are “menshohnoh†because such remarks may bring enmity between the residents of Laitkyrhong village and Mawkynring village.
The headman said that the Dorbar Shnong Mawkynring while condemning the instigators, would also find out people involved in instigating the mob, and hand over such people to the law enforcers to take action against them as per law.
The Dorbar Shnong Mawkynring also wanted the release of the four arrestd persons since the allegations against them are not proved.
