Shillong, July 5: The Superintendent of Police, East Jaiñtia Hills District has issued an advisory urging the general public not to purchase second-hand articles especially mobile phones and other electronic items from any unauthorised person, dealer or agency as such articles might have been acquired illegally by way of theft, extortion, robbery, dacoity, criminal breach of trust or criminal misappropriation.

“Such articles are deemed as stolen property, and as per the law of the land, receiving or retaining of stolen property is punishable with imprisonment which may extend to life imprisonment,” a statement said.

The SP also said that if any person has knowledge about any person, dealer or agency dealing in stolen property, he/she is requested to provide the information to the Chief Inspector (Sadar), Khliehriat at 6009118372, Officer in charge, Khliehriat Police Station at 6009110105 Officer in Charge, Lumshnong Police Station at 6009090286, Officer in Charge, Saipung Police Station at 6009078795, In charge, Ladrymbai Police Outpost at 6009097758, In charge, Umkiang Patrol Post at 6009093595 or In-charge, Umpleng Anti Dacoity Camp at 6009109460.

The identity of the informer will be kept confidential and suitable reward will be given.
