Shillong, Jan 30: The East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC) has demanded from the state government to ensure that the residential school and teachers training centre are made functional at the earliest.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, EJNC president, Sambormi Lyngdoh said that a memorandum has been submitted to Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui requesting for his intervention into the matter.

He said that construction of the buildings for starting the government residential school and the teachers training centre at Byndihati in East Jaiñtia Hills District, has already been completed.

The construction work had started during the year 2012-2013.

“However, due to delay of the government, these buildings are now in a dilapidated condition with broken windowpanes,” Lyngdoh said adding, that failing to utilize such infrastructure as per the objective, will only lead to wastage of public money.

He said the organization is also prepared to oppose against any attempt to divert these two projects to other part of the state.

“With the present economic situation in the district, we demand that the government should speed up the implementation of these institutions which will be a big blessing for the students and aspiring teachers from the region,” Lyngdoh said.
