Shillong, May 22: Minister Incharge Forest & Environment, Prestone Tynsong on May 20 inaugurated the new crematorium – Khnap Thang Briew belonging to the Seng Khasi Raid Nongkrem at Kharbuli village, Nongkrem in the presences of Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit , MLA Nongkrem Constituency, officer of the forest department , S Nongsiej, members of the Seng Khasi Raid Nongkrem including M Syiem , President , C Kharbudon , General Secretary , Syiem of Hima Khyrim Paiem Balajied Sing Syiem, member of the Sein Raij Jowai including OR Challam President , Chairman Raid Nongkrem , B Lyngdoh, Lambor Nongrum, beside others.
This new eco-friendly crematorium was name as (L) Kambel Shullai Eco-Friendly Crematorium who was the pioneer in bringing the creamatorioum into formed.
The crematorium was build at a cost of Rs 25 lakh sanctioned under the Forest & Environment , Department of Meghalaya for the year 2014-2015.
This eco-freiendly crematorium is build in such a way that it minimised pollution to a great extent and it needs very little wood for the process and the fire in this system can be intensify or reduce while burning the dead bodies through a chimney made for this purpose.
In his speech Basaiawmoit informed that over 170 countries has decided to singned the Kyoto Protocol which is an international treaty which extends the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that commits State Parties to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, based on the fact that (a) global warming exists and (b) human-made CO2.
According to him this crematoroum pioneered by (L) Kambel is an art work which will be of great benefit to the coming generation and designed to minimised the expenses which will greatly serve the poor people and also protects the enviroment.
“We are very proud for Late- Kambel Shulai for introducing this art work to the people here and also happy of the fact that this has been palce under the government scheme and thereby make things more easy and simpler, “ he said.
