Effigies of CM, Dy. CM and police officials burnt by protestors

Shillong, Aug 25: The “Sur Ki Nong Mawlai”, a group which is demanding the suspension of the police officials involved in the raid of ex-HNLC militant Cheristerfield Thangkhiew residence at Mawlai, Kynton Massar, which led to his killing on August 13, burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma his Cabinet Ministers and senior police officials.

The burning of effigies took place near the Mawlai, petrol pump after a public meeting which was organised at the end of the seven day ultimate set by the Sur Ki Nong Mawlai who had demanded the suspension of the police officers involved in the raid.

The group burnt the effigies of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, state Director General of Police R. Chandranathan, East Jaiñtia Hills Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa and East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Shailendra Bamaniyan.

Cries of, “No solution no rest”, “We want justice”, and several other slogans were heard at the public meeting.

Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawlai Circle, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh speaking at the public meeting said that those involved in the killing of Thangkhiew are cowards because he was killed he was on his sick bed.

Criticizing, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui over his failure to suspend the police officers, Kharlyngdoh said that if he had the guts one signature was enough to suspend them, even as he asked if it was a sin to demand the suspension of those cops involved in the killing.

Meanwhile, the Sur Ki Nong Mawlai on August 27 will organise a signature campaign and candle light vigil in Mawlai area, to press for their demands.
