Shillong, Nov 7: Former leader of the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), Damonmi S. Dkhar has joined the Congress to contest the upcoming 2019 elections to the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
He will contest from Nartiang constituency.
Dkhar resigned as general secretary of the HANM Central Body on October 30, after holding the post for five years.
“I have decided to contest the upcoming elections with an aim to ensure better service and development to the people of the constituency,†Dkhar said.
Claiming that he had taken up various issues, the former NGO leader however said, it was time for him to take up the responsibility to bring laws that can protect the rights and interest of the indigenous people, if elected as the public representative.
He also sought the support and cooperation of the people of Nartiang constituency even as he assured to bring in good governance that will ensure proper development in the constituency.
