Shillong, Jul 11: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power, Prestone Tynsong has informed that load shedding will be lifted from Monday midnight.
“We will make sure that in the near future too we try to avoid it,†Tynsong said.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the government has to take this unpleasant decision to go for load shedding for four hours a day since the units have broken half way.
He informed that out of four units two units of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited are fully restored and one unit from OTPC and another from NEEPCO has also been restored.
Tynsong said that all these years during monsoon the state never faced load shedding but this time all four units of the MeECL and also one unit each of OTPC and NEEPCO broke down leading to load shedding.
He also informed that power generation from the Leshka hydel project will be restored in another three to four weeks.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the total power requirement of the state per day is 9.95 million units.
He said this includes both everyday requirements of 6.20 million units and repaying back the power taken from other power generation companies during lean season (winters) from November to March, which comes to 3.75 million units.
“It is quite huge. So right now we have a shortage of 1.05 million units to meet the requirement of the state. But this shortage we are meeting by purchasing from the open market,†Tynsong said.
