Shillong, May 28: The Meghalaya State Government Employees Federation (MSGEF), an umbrella of many government associations on Thursday appealed to all government employees to contribute one day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to fight against COVID-19.

Expressing its gratitude to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, for withdrawing the order of deferment of salary for the employees, MSGEF president Randal Rangad said, the order will provide some comfort to those employees who are facing financial distress in view of the low net takeaway salary after the deferment and all other deductions.

“As a mark of solidarity and with the objective of extending support to the Government in these challenging times, the MSGEF appeals to the government employees to contribute one day’s salary which could go a long way in helping the government meet its COVID 19 expenditure,” he said.

Rangad also appealed to all affiliated and also non affiliated associations, Heads of Department and all state government employees to extend support to the government in fighting this battle by voluntary/willingly contributing one day’s salary to the CM COVID Relief Fund.

“Collectively ,we can overcome this challenge and we pray that God will guide and protect us from this pandemic,” the MSGEF said.

Rangad said the MSGEF extends its support, wishes and prayers for those employees working on the frontline- the medical team, police force, the volunteers etc -those involved in providing various essential services –the various NGOs, local communities, social and religious organizations who have been extending a helping hand to the poorer sections of our society.

“The MSGEF calls upon the support and cooperation of all the state government employees to help the Government in its effort to deal with the prevailing situation, so that our children, our family and the society as a whole can live safely and with the hope of a better tomorrow,” he said.
