Shillong, Nov 5: A one day training of District Incident Response Team of East Khasi Hills District on Incident Response System (IRS) held on Tuesday here in Shillong. The training was organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District which was inaugurated by ADC and Executive Officer, DDMA, Shillong,M. B. Tongper, in the presence of EAC, East Khasi Hills, H. M. L. Kynta, Smti P. Lyngba, DDMO, DM, Consultant, S. Bordoloi, and District heads from all the line departments.
In his inaugural address, Tongper informed that as per the guidelines of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) it is required that each states and districts shall form its own Incident Response Team (IRT) which shall function as per the Incident Response System (IRS) in order to effectively manage and respond to any disaster. The training is conducted for District IRT members with an aim to equip the officials on the function of the Incident Response System, he added.
Earlier, Tongper released the Annual Report 2018-19 and City Disaster Management Plan for Shillong Municipal Areas.
It may be mentioned that the Annual Report 2018-19 is a compiled documents of all the activities taken up by the District Disaster Management Authority, East Khasi Hills during the financial year 2018-19.
The Shillong City Disaster Management Plan was prepared by North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) in consultation with DDMA, East Khasi Hills. The Shillong City Disaster Management Plan has been designed to serve the District Administration as well as to guide in building disaster resilience to the city and its citizens. It will also help in minimising the loss of lives, property, infrastructure, livestock and daily livelihood activities. The City Disaster Management Plan was drafted for the Shillong Municipal Area covering an area of 11 kms. The findings as per the Multi Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (HRVA) report and Risk Atlas of the city of Shillong has been incorporated in the Plan.
