India, China to hold joint military drill in Meghalaya in December

Shillong, Dec 3 :The Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army will conduct a joint military exercise “Hand-in-Hand” at Umroi here in Meghalaya from December 7, an official said on Monday.

Defence Spokesperson, Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said the Chinese contingent from the Tibet Military command comprising of 130 personal and the Indian Contingent of similar strength will participate in the 14 day long training exercise.

“The aim of the exercise is to practice joint planning and conduct of counter terrorist operation in semi urban terrain,” Singh said.

He said the exercise is planned at the company level with respective Battalion Headquarters controlling the training.

Singh said the exercise schedule is focused upon training on various lectures & drills associated with counter terrorist handling & firing with each others weapons, battle obstacles course, special heliborne operations and case studies of various operations carried out in counter terrorist environment.

“Two tactical exercise are scheduled during the training are an counter terrorism scenario and the other on Humanitarian and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations,” he said.
