Shillong, Dec 3: As part of the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District today organised a programme under the theme “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world†at Mawkdok village under Laitkroh Khatarshnong C&RD Block.
The programme was attended by Smti N. Umdor, District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shri W. Nongrum, Headman, Mawkdok village, a large number of persons with disabilities from Laitkroh Khatarshnong Block and officials from different government departments.
In her keynote address, N. Umdor said that the aim of observation is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development and create more opportunities for them.
This year’s celebration will be around the overarching theme of innovation and transformative solutions covering innovation for disability-inclusive development in employment, reducing inequality and inclusive development in the field of sports, said Umdor.
S. Kharjana, President, Khasi Disability Association, Shillong spoke on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
D. Thangkhiew, Legal Aid Counsel, DLSA, East Khasi Hills District highlighted the Legal rights for PWDs and O. Sumer, Health Educator, delivered her speech on the subject related to the Health issues to PWDs.
