Shillong Aug 13: The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Mawphlang will be re-opened this week after it was shut down for more than a month since June 26.

An Assembly Committee on Environment headed by Independent MLA from Mawphlang constituency, S.K. Sun had ordered closing down of the JNV due to non functional of a sewage treatment plant (STP).

During a meeting of the Assembly Committee on Tuesday it was informed that the STP has been made functional. Therefore it was decided that the school should be re-opened from August 16.

On June 26 the school was closed down and it was to re-open from July 1 after the summer vacation. But the school, with around 400 students remained closed till date as the STP did not function.

Earlier, parents of the students held a meeting with the state planning board chairman, Lambor Malngiang and urged the state government to intervene since the closure of the school has affected the career of their children.
