KHADC to allot Rs 1 crore to each MDC

Shillong May 24: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to allot Rs 1 crore to each MDC from the special assistance grant sanctioned by the Centre. Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the executive committee held here on Friday, KHADC executive member (EM), Martle N. Mukhim said, “We have decided to earmark Rs 1 crore for each MDC.”

According to him, the district council has so far received Rs 34 crore from the Centre. “It was also assured that the remaining amount of Rs 15 crore will be released very soon,” Mukhim said, while clarifying that the total amount to be received by the Council is Rs 50 crore and not Rs 52 crore as reported earlier. “We will implement the fund for all the 29 constituencies and the respective MDCs can submit their proposals to the executive committee for its consideration.

We are not here to discriminate anybody; we are here to look into the interest of all the constituencies,” Mukhim said.

Earlier six MDCs had withdrawn support to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) against its decision to allot only Rs 50 lakh to each member.

They later reconsidered their decision after the matter was resolved with the intervention of the state government.
