Shillong, Jan 25: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Friday opposed the appointment of two former leaders of the Non Tribal Youths Union (NTYU) as vice chairmen by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and demanded immediate termination of their appointment.
In a statement, KSU general secretary, Donald V Thabah said that Vijay Raj and Pawan Sharma were former president and general secretary of the NTYU.
Raj was appointed as vice chairman of the Meghalaya Programme Implementation, while Sharma is the vice chairman of the Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilization.
Raj is also the vice president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Thabah alleged the NTYU of being anti-tribals and “during 1990s, the organization was responsible for holding agitations to oppose laws which seek to protect the rights and interest of the indigenous people and it is this same organisation which is in favour of holding municipal elections.â€
