Shillong, Nov 23: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of East Jaintia Hills District has summoned social activist Agnes Kharshiing, whose condition is still critical, to depose before him on Saturday.
“You (Agnes) are requested to appear before the undersigned on November 24 in NEIGRIHMS Hospital for deposition of statement for the interest of the enquiry,†ADC SS Syiemlieh said in a notice issued to the social activist.
He said that the deputy commissioner has ordered an enquiry to ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the assault against Agnes and her aide Amita Sangma by unknown miscreants on the afternoon of November 8.
Amita, who is slowly recovering from her injuries after the attack, was also served with a similar notice.
Agnes’s brother John Kharshiing said, “In all probability they will be able to talk only to Amita as for Agnes it may still be difficult.â€
He had earlier informed that Agnes continues to be under Neuro Surgery Ward observation and Physiotherapist care and will take sometime to recover to be able to undergo surgery for her other injuries and fractures.
Agnes and Amita were admitted at the super specialty hospital after receiving severe head injuries after they were attacked by a group of 30-40 people suspected to be mining mafias at Tuber Sohshrieh in coal-rich district of East Jaintia Hills on November 8.
The incident also took place when they were returning from Ladrymbai after lodging a complaint against illegal mining and transportation of coal.
