Shillong June 20: Farmers from villages under Mawkynrew Block on Thursday attended a one day workshop on mushroom cultivation conducted at the Integrated Agricultural Training Centre and Meghalaya Mushroom Development Centre, Upper Shillong.
Altogether 108 farmers from six villages in and around Laitdiengsai area under Mawkynrew Block attended this innovative and interactive workshop on mushroom cultivation.
The program was organised by the Hill Farmers’ Union in collaboration with the SSC Shillong Archdiocese, and Meghalaya Mushroom Development Centre.
Agriculture Secretary, N.M.Nampui graced the occasion as chief guest.
The workshop was designed and conducted by Sumar Kharlukhi, Assistant Director, Horticulture, Mushroom Development Center, who explained about the advantages of various types of Mushroom cultivation which can uplift the economic status of farmers.
On the occasion Hill Farmers’ Union President, Commander Shangpliang expressed his gratitude to Meghalaya government under the leadership of K.N. Kumar, IAS (Retd) and Department of Agriculture for hosting such a programme and life-changing workshop for the marginalized farmers of the State.
The farmers from Laitdiengsai area thanked Kumar, who is the Chairman of the Meghalaya State Farmers Empowerment Commission, who had visited their area on June 17 and encouraged them to go for organic farming and mushroom cultivation.
