Shillong, June 12: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday slammed the opposition Congress for criticizing the holding of cabinet meeting outside the state capital, Shillong, and said that ministers of the MDA government are ready to go to district headquarters which has no proper accommodations, and they can stay in tents too.
“They have nothing to do except criticizing the state government. They say the MDA government is a flop, but even if I am in the opposition, I will also need to play that role,†Tynsong told reporters here.
He was reacting to the statement of Congress leader, Zenith Sangma on the decision of the state government to hold the cabinet meeting outside the state’s secretariat.
“I remember when I was in the Congress, nothing of that thought has happened. But we really mean business as we are going to do it whether you have proper accommodation or not, and we are going to have cabinet meeting on a rotation basis in all the district headquarters. So you talk to the Congress leaders whether they are ready to do that.â€
The deputy chief minister also informed that the Cabinet meeting at Tura, West Garo Hills District had also decided that each minister will be in-charge of one of the eleven districts for one year to ensure that ministers have regular review meetings in their respective allotted district.
On expenditure, Tynsong said, “expenditure will be there even if we sit in Shillong. Though we know that some of the district headquarters do not have proper accommodation, but we don’t need that hospitality as we can stay in a tent for one or two days. Let ministers also experience as we mean business which is to serve the people of the state,†he added.
