Shillong, July 4: A latest move is afoot to remove the present Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Pynshngaiñlang N. Syiem.
Sources on Wednesday said that MDCs supporting the ruling coalition, People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) which include the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), National People’s Party (NPP) and United Democratic Party (UDP) have met and discussed the issue related to change of guard in the Council.
Sources said that some MDCs had also met NPP leader, and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong.
Sources claimed that majority of the members have joined the campaign to remove Syiem from the CEM post and a new leader should be elected in his place from among the members who are supporting the coalition PDA.
“Majority of the members have lost faith in the style of functioning of the present CEM who is playing too much political games,†one of the MDCs said on anonymity.
Interestingly, it was alleged that the CEM who came to know about the move, has offered some MDCs to undertake a trip to Kolkata.
Earlier, some MDCs have also signed a letter in support of the move to topple Syiem, and the letter was also proposed to be sent to the Governor to request him to convene an emergent session of the Council.
Sources claimed that 17 MDCs at present were in favour of the move to change the leader.
Some names including that of former CEM who is the MDC from Nongkrem, Hispreaching Son Shylla, is doing the round to be chosen as the new leader.
