Shillong, Aug 30: In a move to ensure cent per cent error-free electoral roll, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, F R Khakongor on Friday launched the State Level Electors Verification Programme at Mylliem CSC, East Khasi Hills District.
As per the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Common Services Centres (CSC) should be engaged for the Electors Verification Programme (EVP).
Joint CEO, R P Marak, Block Development Officer, Mylliem Block, P Passah, State head CSC, Joshua Lyngdoh, officials from the Election Department and headmen from different villages were also present.
The Election Commission of India has introduced the EVP in order to have error-free electoral rolls. Accordingly, the programme will start from September 1 to October 15.
The EVP will help the electors to crosscheck their details registered in the voters’ list.
In his speech, Kharkongor said that Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is an authenticated document which every Indian citizen who has attained the age of 18 years should possess because this card can ensure services and benefits to the public.
The engagement of CSCs in the EVP will facilitate in making necessary updating of the details in the electoral rolls, and the public can now avail the services right at their doorstep.
Kharkongor informed that through EVP, citizens would be able not only to authenticate their details in the EPIC, but can also offer suggestions with regard to their polling stations.
He called upon all eligible voters to come forward to verify the details by providing the documents approved by the Election Commission.
The CEO also called upon headmen to disseminate the information in their respective localities and encourage the citizens to come forward and take advantage of the facilities provided.
The CEO launched the digitally EVP in CSC and also released the EVP awareness video, EVP creative/posters besides handing over the posters/stickers to CSC, BDO and Rangbah Shnongs (headmen).
Senior System Engineer, J. Nongrum in his presentation on EVP, informed that the citizens can verify their electoral details through the ‘Voter helpline’ mobile app, NVSP portal, by visiting the CSCs in their vicinity or by submitting a hard copy of filled up forms through their BLOs who will make a house to house visit to gather information details of un-enrolled citizens/dead/shifted electors.
He also said that the public can verify their EPIC in these Centres by furnishing any of the documents approved by the ECI.
A help line has also been set up wherein citizens, including people with disabilities can call by dialing 1950 for any queries.
In a similar programme, East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, inaugurated the CSC at the Shillong Bar Association. The programme was organised by the office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District.
Nongbri said that the initiative to launch the EVP was taken by the Election Commission of India with an aim of creating an error free electoral roll.
She said that the “Voter helpline†mobile app and the NVSP portal will go a long way in making the election process accessible to people with disabilities.
As part of the launch, the DC also distributed posters of the CSC.
