Shillong, Jan 3: The Host City Contract for Meghalaya to host the 39th National Games in 2022 was signed here on Wednesday.
The ceremony for signing the contract was held at Yojana Bhavan Auditorium where the Indian Olympic Association was represented by it Secretary General, Rajeev Mehta, and the Meghalaya government was represented by Additional Secretary, (Sports and Youth Affairs), P.W. Ingty and the Meghalaya State Olympic Association was represented by its working president, John F. Kharshiing, in the presence of various dignitaries and representatives of sports associations and sportspersons.
A banker’s cheque amounting to Rs. 4.5 crore was also handed over by the Meghalaya government to the Indian Olympic Association though Rajeev Mehta.
Earlier Meghalaya had a bank draft of Rs 50 lakh as bidding amount for hosting the National Games in 2022.
Speaking at the event, Urban Affairs Minister, RV Lyngdoh urged upon all stakeholders and the people of the state to work together with the government in making the 39th National Games 2022 a grand success.
Others present at the event were Sports and Youth Affairs director, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Sports and Youth Affairs secretary, Pravin Bakshi, and senior officials from various departments.
Later, Mehta told reporters that after signing the contract, Meghalaya has to prepare a budget proposal for creating of necessary infrastructure in the state for hosting the National Games.
He said that creating of sports infrastructure and facilities should complete by 2021.
