Meghalaya’s lone RS seat goes to poll with 54 other seats on March 26

Shillong Feb 25, 2020:  Polling for the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Meghalaya will be held on March 26 along with 54 other seats in 16 states of the country.

The date for polling was announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.

The results, after counting of votes, will be declared on the same day of the polling (March 26) after 5 pm.

The biennial elections to the council of states to fill the seats of  55 members of Rajya Sabha from 17 states, whose term wi expire in April 2020.

Assam has three seats in the Rajya Sabha and Meghalaya and Manipur have one seat each.

The term of Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha member, Wansuk Syiem will end on April 12.

The last date for filing of nominations is March 13 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 18.

The Rajya Sabha members have to be elected by members of the respective State Legislatures.

Meghalaya has 60 MLAs who are electors in the Rajya Sabha election.
